How To Get Inspired For College Admission Essays
Getting Started on Writing College Admission Essays.
In college applications, the last thing that anyone does is the admission essay. Some may find it tedious. To others, it is simply daunting. Even those who like to write find themselves stumped when starting college admission essays. It can be intimidating especially when you know that getting accepted at the college of your choice depends on this essay as well. Of all the essays you will write, college admission essays will be the ones that you want to be near-perfect, if not completely perfect.
As most would do, you have looked over samples available on the internet. You may have found some that you think were brilliantly written – ones that are funny and fascinating. Now all you can think about is how to be funny and just as fascinating as the samples you have read. You now find yourself stuck. Instead of moving forward, you have actually stopped moving as you have focused on the wrong thing. It is well and good that you know the tone your essay would have.
Samples are a good source of inspiration, however, you must remain focused. When looking at samples, pay attention at their topics. You may want to follow their lead and use the same topic for your essay. Samples also show where they got their inspiration from like a vacation, an experience in their life. You may start looking at similar experiences and write down your own thoughts about it.
Inspiration comes from many things. Take a walk or read a book. Go ahead and watch a movie. Let your mind wander where it will. You may be surprised that it wasn’t even the trip, the book or the movie itself that surprised you. Sometimes inspiration can be from this small thing you saw or did. You may even look back on the things that have happened in your life. The point is to look at things with a new perspective. Old things or things you hardly take notice may surprise you.
Understand that inspiration can take time to happen. But when it strikes, your essay will come together smoothly. Knowing that actually getting started can take time, it is best not to leave writing college admission essays at the last minute. A rushed essay will not be beneficial to you. Keep in mind that inspiration is only the first step. As in anything you write, take notes, create and outline, write and then edit.
